about us

our history

Life Direction Team (LDT) is a Singapore-based group of spiritual directors with the aim of providing spiritual support and accompaniment to all who desire to find meaning beyond the moment.

People who wish to deepen their relationship with God seek spiritual direction. This is achieved through the help of people who are experienced in such. It was for this purpose that the LDT was commissioned to carry out this mission of accompaniment. This mission of accompaniment has been entrusted to us with a view to help you rediscover the treasure that lies within yourself; to grow closer to the Author of life; to seek a sense of belonging and freedom; and to be at peace and in harmony with self, others, and all of creation.

For twenty years since its very conception, we, the LDT, have been providing spiritual direction and one-to-one retreats to many in Singapore. Through us, you will be able to find the necessary resources to aid you in your journey.

The LDT is an ecumenical spiritual direction team consisting of about 40 spiritual directors and facilitators, from the Catholic, Anglican and Methodist churches. We are in close collaboration with the Centre for Ignatian Spirituality and Counselling.

In 1983, the previous Archbishop of Singapore, Archbishop Emeritus Gregory Yong, DD; the then Director of the Singapore Pastoral Institute, now the current Archbishop of Singapore, Nicholas Chia, DD. STL; and the Conference of Major Superiors, prompted by the late Sr. Carmen Dengah, fdcc, initiated a Training Programme for spiritual direction.

Local religious formators, the clergy and lay persons were recommended to be in the formation programme so as to better minister to candidates of religious life and to the baptised who desire a deepening relationship with God.

The resource persons comprising Rev John Reilly, sj, Rev Robert Rice, sj, Sisters Linda Lizada, rc and Patricia Clouston, rc, came for 3 consecutive years to help in the initial Formation of Spiritual Directors for Singapore and Malaysia.

By the year 1986, those who underwent the full five year Formation Programme felt ready to help and support one another and to assist one another and others in personal on-going formation.

The Life Direction Team (LDT) was then established, and it was comprised of lay persons and religious to minister to parishes and congregations around Singapore. And since then, the LDT has conducted countless workshops, retreats, and provided spiritual directions to many in Singapore.
