Victor Lam's Reflection about the Two Year Spiritual Direction Formation Programme

Sr. Celin Low’s Reflection about the Two Year Spiritual Direction Formation Programme.

Shared on the evening of Certification Award in the presence of His Grace Archbishop Nicholas Chia, on 21st September 2006 at Good Shepherd Oasis.

WHAT THE LDT TWO YEAR SD FORMATION PROGRAMME means to me: [A simple reflection] I have been deeply enriched and renewed by the 2 years Spiritual Direction Formation Programme. It was not like many of the courses I had attended. It was not so much an exercise of acquiring knowledge, skills and know-how – these will come as a by-product, but the main thrust is a gradual and graced process of an inward journey to the very core of my being, supported by the indispensable activities known as Foundational Activities. My regular encounter with the Lord in prayer, the journaling that follows, the Daily Examination of Conscience and the monthly personal Spiritual Direction – to name a few, were instrumental in helping me to be more sensitive to what is taking place in my feelings at the core of my being where the Spirit dwells.

Gradually schooled to listening more attentively and receptively from my heart a contemplative outlook to life takes shape. Hence the formation is a journey into my heart, evoking that delicate sensitivity to be in touch with the Jesus within. And encountering my personal God deep within my being I just know that I will never be the same again.

Today there is so much talk about looking for new ways of being Church – of being people of God.

The people today are very different from my time. We accept easily what is told to us. This is no longer true today. The young and the not so young are searching for meaning in life. No pet answers will satisfy them. Each needs to discover the meaning to life for himself/herself.

What better way [I am aware] to introduce to them, than Spiritual Accompaniment where each is helped to experience his/her own inward journey and discover the Risen Christ in their life. It is only when we have a personal relationship with Jesus, are we able to discover him in community.
